Summary
Designing urban spaces that are safe and beneficial for children requires collaboration between families, businesses, and policymakers. Despite this, children and their caregivers are often left out of the decision-making process. Our goal was to explore how to meaningfully engage families in shaping urban environments while addressing challenges related to accessibility, inclusion, and long-term sustainability.
Through extensive research, stakeholder mapping, and service design principles, we developed Childscape Collective, a community engagement framework that fosters partnerships between local businesses, urban planners, and families. This model introduces hands-on events, workshops, and strategic partnerships to ensure that families play an active role in shaping child-friendly urban spaces.
